At Beth Loves Bollywood, Beth and I discuss three–that’s three–more Mithun Chakraborty films! This time we watch Surakksha (1979) and its sequel Wardaat, in which Mithun plays secret agent Gunmaster G-9, the scrappiest, most DIY secret agent around fighting supercriminals who have sweet mad science and even sweeter lairs. And we also witness Gunmaster’s decline in circumstance as he goes from a pretty sweet pad and bedroom to a bedroom with a Disney mural.
And we watched Guru (1989), which is not a Gunmaster G-9 movie, but in which Mithun plays a secret agent out to stop Shakti Kapoor’s super-criminal from creating a super laser to steal a whole bunch of gold. What, you say, that sounds like Goldfinger (1964). Well, it kinda does in the end, but there is two hours more of police impersonation, motorcycle chases, Bruce Lee imitations, twin Sridevis and musical numbers.
