Piercing The Vale

I have been really delinquent in sharing recent publications. So, Great Ramses Feets, I have had a story published in Piercing the Vale!  Piercing the Vale is Fox Spirit Books’ eighth collection of flash fiction. This one is dedicated to:

Ghost stories, a cat that can cross between our world and the fae and stories that go beyond life and death.

Piercing the Vale is a collection of short and flash fiction exploring beyond the veil but also touches on fairy realms.

And it includes my story, “The Lost City of Osiris: A Tale of Western Adventure.” A story that started out as chapters in my old zine Monstress and has come a long way since. It’s about the transcendent–kind of stalky, really–love of a mummy for a young archaeologist and adventuress. Plus there are ancient rites, mysterious dusty tomes and a secret city!

Here’s the first “Chapter” of “The Lost City of Osiris”:

Chapter 1

The whole world was white. It was impossible to tell sky from sand. And when the sun finally set, it left a red line across the horizon like a cut across his eye.  Imhotep had been walking for days, weeks. The professor thought they were done, thought this was over, but Imhotep kept walking. He had crossed the ocean, following them. Trailing ragged bandages, scarab beetles, coyotes and vultures behind him, he would cross the salt flat.  He would walk across the world to claim what was his.

‘My love,’ he thought. ‘Ankhessenamun.’
